Longmorn 16 Year Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Longmorn 16 Year Old comes from a Speyside distillery near Elgin, founded in 1894, that whisky blenders have long treasured and drinkers rarely see. Most of its rich, fruity malt goes into Chivas Regal and Royal Salute for owner Chivas Brothers, and it holds a special place in whisky history: Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, apprenticed at Longmorn in 1919 before founding Nikka.
Matured in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 96 proof, the 16 Year opens with Granny Smith apple, butter and honey on the nose, growing fruitier and more floral with water, then a palate of butterscotch, toffee, dried fruit and a wave of oak spice, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, finishing long with oats, wood and a faint smokiness. Drinkhacker graded it a B. A blender's secret Speyside for the drinker who has worked through the famous names.
