Benromach 15 Year Old comes from one of Speyside's smallest distilleries, in Forres, revived by independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail and reopened in 1998 with a mission to recreate the lightly peated, old-fashioned Speyside style of the 1950s and 60s. Every Benromach is matured exclusively in first-fill casks, and the 15 Year uses a higher proportion of ex-sherry wood than the 10 Year.

Bottled at 86 proof, it opens with toffee apple, orange peel, honey and beeswax laced with a whisper of soft, ashy smoke, then moves into rich fruitcake, stewed plum, leather, walnut and dark chocolate with a lively ginger spice. The finish is medium-long, sherried and herbal. The Dramble scored it 86 out of 100 for its complexity and balance, and it sits comfortably alongside Springbank and older-style Highland Park for drinkers who want a little smoke in their sherry.
